The Guide To Vagina Care
The vagina and vulva are very sensitive and delicate parts of every woman’s body. Anything from chemicals in drugs to not getting enough air can upset the PH balance of the entire region. One has to be careful while caring for the vagina and the vulva.
Most people conflate the vagina and the vulva, failing to understand that they are different parts.
What is the difference between the vagina and the vulva?
The vulva is the part of your genitals on the outside of your body. It includes; the labia minora, the labia majora, the clitoris, the vaginal opening and the opening of the urethra (the hole you pee out of).
The vagina on the other hand is the tube between the vulva and the cervix. This tube is the connection between the cervix and the outside world.
Keeping your entire genitalia clean as a woman can be tough because no two bodies are the same so it is not a one-size-fits-all situation. Ironically, the vagina is a self-cleaning part so sprays, soaps and gels are oftentimes not necessary in your vagina/vulva care routine. However, incorporating these basic habits can go a long way in maintaining clean and healthy genitalia:
Wash Your Vulva Twice A Day
The vulva does not need more than water, and if your body permits, a mild soap. Washing it at least twice a day with warm water will go a long way in maintaining your hygiene.
Keep The Fragrance Away
Scents from feminine hygiene products and your personal fragrances can cause irritation to the lining of the vagina and cause bad bacteria to breed in that region. Your vagina does not need to smell like a garden for you to know it is clean and healthy.
Sleep In Your Birthday Suit
Sleeping naked at night is highly recommended as it can help your vagina breathe better.
Change Your Underwear Daily
No matter what kind of underwear you like, make sure you change it daily and only w ear clean underwear at all times.
Keep Damp Clothes Away
Anything wet or damp around the vagina promotes bacteria growth so be sure to not sit in your wet swimsuit or your sweaty workout clothes for too long.
Always Read The Label
From condoms to lubes, you should always keep an eye out for the ingredients. Products containing fragrances, petroleum by-products, amongst others have no business near your genitalia.
Change Pads At Least Twice A Day
During your period, your dedication to hygienic practices should be twice as more. One way to do that is to change your pads/ tampons at least twice a day… and shower while you are at it.
